HULU PRIDEFEST

A VIRTUAL ONE DAY FESTIVAL TO RIVAL ALL LIVE STREAMING EVENTS.

Even in a pandemic, Pride isn’t cancelled. For Hulu’s 2020 celebration, we created a one of a kind virtual experience to rival the onslaught of live streaming events during the month of June. PrideFest was an immersive one day festival, taking place on an interactive island in the sky. Using Active Theory’s Dreamwave platform as a base, and in only 4 weeks time, we built out custom avatars, a dynamic and sharable flower garden and a truly magical space to host a diverse line-up of LGBTQ+ talent.

The show was just as colorful as the experience itself, with a specific focus on lifting up Black voices and discussing the challenges the Black and LGBTQ+ communities are facing today. We booked and managed all talent, oversaw the creation of 8 hours worth of content, and created promotional material for the experience.

PrideFest pushed the limits of the 2020 pivot to virtual events. A web-based, mobile friendly experience, it reminded us of the Internet before Instagram, but this time with devices that can power a video game like experience in just your phone’s browser.

And socially distant connections were made, even without Disney sanctioned chat. Here’s what it looks like when virtual actually mimics real life.
